When I launched OKR Lab with the help of my friend Mirko de Feo, we asked the Community what was the main reasons they were using OKRs or wanted to learn more about it and one of the main reasons was: lack of focus.
As written by Zwilling, lack of focus can be caused by a variety of factors such as
not having a clear direction or strategy,
taking on too many projects,
not being able to prioritize important tasks,
and not being able to align activities with overall goals and objectives.
A study by the Harvard Business Review found that companies with a clear strategic focus outperform their peers by a significant margin. The study found that companies with a clear strategic focus had a return on assets that was three times higher than companies without a clear focus.
In every company, work can be quite hectic and drive to lack of focus and stress, but in startups, it is quite common to try and chase every opportunity, with that leading to more and different activities, not always aligned with the strategy and often ending in a perpetual lack of focus that could stress, frustrate and disengage your team.
Lack of focus can harm a business's ability to build a strong brand and reputation, attract and retain top talent, and generate enough revenue and profits to sustain growth.
It's important for businesses to address the root causes of a lack of focus in order to effectively address the problem and improve their overall performance.
We decided to make this the topic of our next OKR Lab Monthly Meet-up, where we’ll talk about how this could be addressed using OKRs and how to regain focus, get results and successfully execute your strategy.
